Privacy Matters Here
Vanalleswa Living is a small journal, and it handles very little information about the people who read it. This page explains exactly what that information is, why it exists and what you can ask us to do with it. Last updated October 2026.
A static site by design
The journal is built as plain, pre-made pages. There is no database of readers behind it, no login, no comments section and no shopping basket. That keeps the data side very simple:
- No analytics software measures your visit.
- No advertising network, tracking pixel or retargeting tag is loaded.
- No social media widgets watch what you read; share links are ordinary links that only do something if you click them.
- Fonts and images come from the site's own files rather than third-party services.
Your cookie choice
The first time you visit, a small card asks whether you are happy with the site storing your answer. Whatever you choose is saved in your own browser's local storage so the card does not reappear on every page. It is not sent to us and is not used to recognise you. Clearing this site's stored data in your browser settings wipes it whenever you wish. More detail is on our Cookie Preferences page.
Server logs
Like any website, the journal is delivered by a hosting provider. When your browser requests a page, the provider's servers record routine technical details such as the IP address, the time, the page requested, the browser type and whether the request succeeded. These logs exist to keep the service secure and working, for example to spot abuse or errors. They are kept for a limited period by the provider, and we do not combine them with other data or use them to build profiles.
When you write to us
If you send an email to team@vanalleswa.net, we receive your address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to read and answer your note and, where relevant, to correct an article. We do not add you to a mailing list or pass your message on to anyone for marketing. Messages are deleted once they are no longer needed for the conversation they belong to. Please do not send passwords, card numbers or health records.
Legal basis
Where data protection law such as the GDPR applies, server logs are processed on the basis of a legitimate interest in running a secure website, and emails on the basis of answering a request you started yourself.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its use, and to receive a copy. If you are unhappy with how we respond, the data protection regulator where you live will hear your complaint. To use any of these rights, write to team@vanalleswa.net and tell us which messages or dates your request concerns.
Changes
If the way the journal works changes, for instance if a new feature needed more data, this page will be updated first and the date at the top will change. Related pages: Terms of This Site and Drop a Postcard.
